The role
Group life and accident policies are the part of the insurance programme that a company distributes across its workforce: behind every joiner, every sum insured and every leaver there is a named person and an obligation to meet. This role runs that portfolio end to end, from the monthly movements to the renewal, and is the steady point of contact for the client’s human resources teams. Because we are independent and belong to no insurer, the recommendation on sums insured, cover and carrier is the team’s to make, and you have to be able to defend it in front of the client and in front of the market.
What you will do
- Run the scheme’s monthly cycle: joiners, leavers and changes to members, membership forms and the issuing of endorsements with each insurer.
- Reconcile billing with the insurer: match premium invoices, pro rata calculations and premium adjustments against the movements notified, and settle any discrepancies before they reach the client.
- Prepare renewals: review sums insured and cover, analyse the scheme’s claims experience and negotiate terms with the market.
- Advise HR managers on sums insured, cover, waiting periods and pre-existing conditions, in language they can pass on to their own people.
- Review the collective bargaining agreement that applies to each client, check that the policy covers what that agreement obliges them to insure, and flag it when it stops doing so.
- Support tenders and bids: read the tender documents, assemble the technical documentation and build the submission with the team.
- Follow life and accident claims alongside the claims department, from the paperwork through to payment to the beneficiaries.
What we ask for
- Three years or more handling group life, accident or health insurance, in a brokerage, an insurer or a company’s compensation and benefits function.
- Command of the monthly running of a scheme: member movements, premium adjustments and reconciliation of premium invoices with the insurer.
- Confident reading of policy wordings: death, permanent total and absolute disability, double sum insured for accidental death, waiting periods, pre-existing conditions and scope of cover.
- Excel at the level required to reconcile files of several hundred members: lookups, pivot tables and version control of the membership list.
- Accredited insurance distribution training at the level required for an advisory role. If you do not have it, we arrange and pay for it, and it is completed before you take on technical dealings with the client.
- Direct dealings with clients, and the ability to set out a technical recommendation in writing and stand behind it.
What we value
- Working knowledge of sector-wide collective bargaining agreements as a source of insurance obligations (metalworking, construction, chemicals and the like).
- Experience with tenders and bids: tender documents, award criteria and deadlines.
- Knowledge of pension commitments and flexible benefits schemes.
- Working English, for schemes at the subsidiaries of international groups.
- Catalan, given the weight of the portfolio in Catalonia.
What we offer
- An assigned, stable portfolio: you handle your clients end to end, from the monthly movements to renewal, and they call you.
- Aporta, the flexible benefits tool the firm implements for its clients, available to the team as well.
- The compulsory continuing training in insurance distribution, arranged and paid for by the firm, plus whatever technical training in the class of business you need.
- An in-house claims department: a death or disability file is not outsourced.
- Written procedures audited by SGS to ISO 9001: how a group scheme is reconciled does not depend on who you ask.
- Great Place to Work certification 2025, decided by an anonymous survey of the whole workforce.
- Continuous training and careers measured in years: whoever renews a group scheme is usually the person who placed it.
How the process works
Four steps: application, first conversation, interview with your prospective manager, and an answer. We always reply, whether we go ahead or not.
