Contradictory appraisal
Procedure provided by law when the insured and insurer disagree on the valuation: each party appoints an expert and, if there is no agreement, a third is appointed.
In practice
The resulting report is binding unless challenged within the deadline. It is the natural route before litigation, and its cost is shared according to who comes closest to the final figure.
