Art and jewellery insurance
A collection is formed over years and rarely fits within the sublimits of a home policy. It is insured with expert valuation and agreed value piece by piece, and with specific conditions for exhibition and transport.
What is art and jewellery insurance
A specific policy for art and jewellery covers the pieces at agreed value and in all risks mode, including transport, exhibitions and stay outside the home. It is necessary because home insurance limits valuable items to very low sub-limits —often 20% of the content and a few thousand euros per piece— and requires them to be in a safe to cover theft.
Advantages of art and jewellery insurance
Valuable pieces do not fit into a home policy, and the problem only appears the day they are missing.
You leave home with them
The cover accompanies the piece anywhere in the world. Taking a piece of jewellery to a dinner or a painting to an exhibition no longer leaves it unprotected.
No mandatory safe
Custody measures are negotiated according to the actual use of the pieces, instead of imposing a condition that in practice no one complies with daily.
You know what your collection is worth
The valuation required for insurance also serves for succession, distribution among heirs, and any sales operation.
Buy today and it's covered today
The automatic cover for new acquisitions protects the item from the moment you purchase it, without waiting to declare or value it.
Who it is for
Collectors
Those who accumulate works whose combined value far exceeds the sub-limits of a home policy.
Owners of significant jewellery
Inherited pieces or high-end watches, which are used outside the home and travel.
Galleries and antique dealers
Professional activity with works in deposit, on exhibition and in transit.
Heirs
Those who receive a collection and discover that it is not appraised or insured adequately.
Why home insurance is not enough
Most value losses in this area do not come from theft, but from poorly designed cover.
Sub-limit per piece
Home usually limits each object to a few thousand euros. A watch or a painting of certain significance is compensated well below its value.
Safe requirement
Many policies only cover jewellery if they are in an approved safe. A theft with the pieces worn or in the jewellery box is excluded.
No cover outside the home
Home covers what is in the dwelling. Taking the piece to a dinner, an exhibition or on a trip leaves it unprotected.
Outdated valuation
Art and high-end watches have appreciated significantly. An appraisal from ten years ago may be half the current value.

The definitive scope depends on the wording of each insurer. We review it with you before recommending anything.
Definimos coberturas, límites, franquicias y exclusiones aceptables. Decidimos qué se transfiere al asegurador y qué se retiene de forma consciente.
Negociación con el mercado
Presentamos el riesgo a las aseguradoras con las que trabajamos y negociamos condiciones. Somos independientes: no pertenecemos a ninguna compañía.
Acompañamiento y siniestros
Revisamos el programa cada renovación y, cuando ocurre el siniestro, actuamos como tu parte técnica frente al asegurador hasta el cobro.
Lo que más nos preguntan sobre art and jewellery insurance
What is the agreed value and why does it matter so much?
It is the value agreed in advance between the insured and the insurer, usually with expert appraisal. In the event of a claim, that figure is compensated without discussion about the market value. In art and jewellery, where appraisal after loss is almost impossible, it is the only formula that provides certainty.
How often should the appraisal be updated?
Every three to five years, and always after a significant market movement or a restoration. Many policies include an automatic revaluation clause, but it does not replace periodic appraisal for significant pieces.
Does the policy cover if I wear the jewellery?
Yes, in a specific jewellery policy with cover outside the home. It is exactly the opposite of home insurance, where theft of jewellery outside the home or outside a safe is usually excluded or very sub-limited.
Do I need to install a safe?
In a specialised policy, not necessarily: security measures are negotiated according to the value and actual use of the pieces. They do influence the premium, and for very significant collections the insurer may require specific custody conditions.
Does it cover transport to an exhibition or to a restorer?
Yes, including transport to and from and the stay at the destination, provided it is declared. It is one of the main differences compared to home insurance, which only covers the piece within the home.
What happens if a piece of a set breaks?
The pair or set clause covers the loss of value of the entire set, not just the damaged piece. In jewellery and serial works, this difference is very relevant and it is advisable to check that it is included.
