A mishap need not touch your savings
A pedestrian who falls or a broken shop window can end in a substantial claim. The policy responds on your behalf, with no excess, up to the agreed limit.

Your independence, with backing: for the damage you might cause with your wheelchair and for the damage others might cause you.
It is a third-party liability policy for people who get around in a manual or electric wheelchair, on a mobility scooter or on a handbike. It covers injury and damage caused to others while using it, civil and criminal defence if a claim is made, and claims for damage that someone else causes to the wheelchair user or to the wheelchair itself. The law does not require it, but whoever causes damage is liable for it all the same.

When someone else causes the damage, to you or to your wheelchair, pursuing the claim is part of the cover.
The everyday manual wheelchair, the electric one, the mobility scooter or the weekend handbike can all go on the same policy.

No. Spain's Law 5/2025, which reformed motor insurance, leaves wheelchairs and mobility devices intended exclusively for people with disabilities or reduced mobility outside compulsory insurance.
That does not exempt you from liability: if your wheelchair causes a pedestrian to fall, or you hit a parked car or damage a door, a lift or a shop window, you can be held liable for that damage.
It might. Some home policies cover damage you cause to others outside the home, but that does not mean they always cover the use of the wheelchair, mobility scooter or handbike.
It's worth checking four things: if the device is included, if the cover extends outside the home, if it covers damage to people and property, and up to what limit it pays. Before taking out a policy, we can review it with you.
Manual and electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters and handbikes. You can insure a single wheelchair or several under the same policy.
Mobility scooters and handbikes carry their own premium, because more weight and more speed mean more risk. If you insure a handbike, the wheelchair it attaches to is included.
The policy includes claiming for damage that someone else causes to you or to your wheelchair, for example if you are hit by a vehicle.
It helps a great deal to take the details of the person or vehicle responsible and of any witnesses, and to keep medical reports, invoices and photographs. If you already had a disability before the accident, explain what has changed since: the Spanish road traffic compensation scale takes into account after-effects that worsen a pre-existing condition and the need for help from another person.
Take the details of the affected person and any witnesses, take photographs of the location and the damage, and inform us as soon as possible. Do not admit fault or agree to any payment on your own: the claim is handled with the insurer, which also assumes the defence if necessary.
No. It is third-party liability insurance: it responds for the damage you cause to others and helps you claim for the damage others cause to you. Breakdown, wear and tear or theft of the wheelchair fall outside these covers; if you would like them protected, we will look into it separately.
