Car and motorcycle insurance

What decides the indemnity of a total loss claim is the vehicle valuation criterion set by the policy; what decides the cost of a small claim is the excess. Neither of these is reflected in the premium price.

Definition

What is vehicle insurance

Vehicle insurance has a legally mandatory part —third-party liability for damages— and several voluntary layers: glass, theft and fire, own damage with or without excess, assistance and legal defence. The relevant decision is not just third-party or comprehensive, but what excess you assume and what real assistance you have, which is what makes the difference when you are stranded.

Advantages

Advantages of car insurance

01

You don't argue with the insurer

In a claim with shared fault or disputed damages, having a technician defending your position changes what you end up receiving and how long it takes.

02

We compare each renewal

The premium increases on its own if no one reviews it. Each year we look at the entire market with equivalent covers, not just the bill you receive.

03

You keep moving the same day

Replacement vehicle and assistance from kilometre zero prevent a bump from leaving you unable to work for a week.

04

You decide with numbers, not out of habit

Before making a claim for a minor bump, we calculate if it's worth it for you, considering the effect on the bonus for the coming years.

Frequent doubts

Most frequently asked questions about vehicle insurance

Is comprehensive or extended third-party cover worth it for me?

As a guideline, comprehensive cover is worthwhile while the vehicle retains significant value, typically the first five to seven years. After that, an extended third-party with windscreen, theft and fire is usually the balanced option, unless the car is high-end.

What excess suits me?

The one you can pay without disrupting your month. Increasing from €0 to €300 significantly reduces the premium and is still affordable for most. Excesses of €600 or more only make sense if you drive little or have a good history.

Do I lose the bonus if I make a claim?

It depends on whether you are responsible and the policy of each insurer. For minor incidents, it is often worth assessing first if it is worth declaring. We do that calculation with you before opening the claim, not after.

What happens if I am declared a total loss?

The insurer compensates according to the agreed valuation method. During the first two years, many policies compensate at new or replacement value; after that period, at market value plus a percentage improvement. It is one of the clauses most worth checking before contracting.

Does the insurance cover anyone driving my car?

If contracted as open driving, yes. If you have declared a single or age-limited driver and someone else drives, the insurer may reduce the compensation or recourse against you. Declaring regular drivers costs little and avoids this problem.

What advantage does contracting with a broker have instead of directly?

That we compare the entire market at each renewal and that, if there is a claim, you have a technical person defending your position against the insurer. In a disputed claim, that difference decides if you get paid and how much.
