Funeral insurance
At JORI& we are committed to offering you maximum peace of mind and support in the most difficult moments of life.
What is funeral insurance
Funeral insurance covers the organisation and full cost of the funeral service, as well as the processing of all documentation following the death. Its real value is not only in the amount —a funeral in Spain currently ranges between €3,500 and €6,000— but in ensuring the family does not have to decide, negotiate, or manage arrangements in the first forty-eight hours.
Advantages of funeral insurance
It is the only insurance whose greatest value is received by someone who did not take it out.
No one decides while in shock
Choosing a coffin, funeral parlour and ceremony while coming to terms with the loss is a burden that no one is in a position to bear. With a policy, a manager resolves it and the family only accompanies.
Zero outlay at the worst moment
A funeral costs several thousand euros that must be advanced before accessing any inheritance, which is usually blocked for weeks.
The price does not increase with age
With a level premium, the cost remains stable for life. Taken out late, the same service becomes difficult to afford with a pension.
Subsequent procedures, resolved
Certificates, civil registry, cancellations and inheritance guidance are managed from the same service. These are weeks of procedures that someone would have to do.
Who it is for
Families who want it resolved
Those who prefer their children not to have to make decisions or advance money.
Elderly people
Profile where a single premium or settled payment prevents the cost from increasing with age.
Families with members abroad
Situations where international repatriation of the deceased is a very high expense.
Households with a tight budget
Families for whom an unexpected expense of several thousand euros would be a serious problem.
What should be reviewed
It is a product contracted to not think about again, and precisely for that reason, it is rarely reviewed.
Outdated capital
A policy taken out twenty years ago may have a capital that no longer covers the current service, and the difference is paid by the family.
Premium modality
The natural premium is very cheap at first and becomes very expensive in advanced ages. The levelled one costs more at the start but is stable.
Free choice of funeral home
Some policies require using the insurer's funeral home. If the family prefers another, they may end up paying twice.
Transfer not included
National or international transfer can exceed the cost of the funeral itself and is not always covered without limit.
Main covers of funeral insurance
- Complete funeral service: coffin, funeral parlour, ceremony, cremation or burial
- National and international transfer of the deceased to the place of burial
- Processing of death certificate, civil registry and administrative procedures
- Advice to the family on inheritance procedures and cancellation of services
- Travel assistance and repatriation if death occurs outside the home
- Levelled premium modalities, single premium and paid-up
The definitive scope depends on the wording of each insurer. We review it with you before recommending anything.
Definimos coberturas, límites, franquicias y exclusiones aceptables. Decidimos qué se transfiere al asegurador y qué se retiene de forma consciente.
Negociación con el mercado
Presentamos el riesgo a las aseguradoras con las que trabajamos y negociamos condiciones. Somos independientes: no pertenecemos a ninguna compañía.
Acompañamiento y siniestros
Revisamos el programa cada renovación y, cuando ocurre el siniestro, actuamos como tu parte técnica frente al asegurador hasta el cobro.
Lo que más nos preguntan sobre funeral insurance
How much does a funeral service cost today?
In Spain, it usually ranges between €3,500 and €6,000, with notable differences by province and type of service. This is why reviewing the capital of an old policy is so important: many remain at figures from two decades ago.
What is the difference between levelled premium and natural premium?
The natural one increases every year with age and becomes very burdensome in advanced ages. The levelled one is calculated to remain stable throughout life. If the goal is to avoid surprises at eighty, the levelled one is the sensible option despite costing more initially.
Can I choose the funeral home I want?
It depends on the policy. There is a free choice modality, in which the insurer reimburses up to the contracted capital for the service the family chooses. We always review it, because at the time of death families usually have a specific preference.
Is there a waiting period when contracting?
Usually six months for death by illness. Death by accident is usually covered from day one. Once the waiting period is over, the cover is complete and lifelong.
What happens if I cancel after years of paying?
In levelled premium policies, a mathematical provision is generated, and upon cancellation, you may be entitled to a surrender value or a reduction in capital. It is advisable to consult this before cancelling, as many people cancel old policies without knowing they have accumulated value.
Does it cover the transfer if I die abroad?
If the policy includes international repatriation, yes, and it is one of the most valuable covers: a transfer from outside Europe can exceed €10,000. It is advisable to verify this expressly if travelling frequently or residing temporarily abroad.
